PRACTICE
Emotion and movement are at the center of how I work. Every decision I make, from the surface to the palette, light, and atmosphere, are all there to serve the painting and what it has to say.
01 / STORY
The story determines the choices.
Every painting begins with a question, a memory, or an idea 1 can't shake. I decide what is shown and what remains unresalved.
I consider where the eye will rest and where it will search. Light and atmosphere are the tools I use to shape what is felt rather than what is simply seen.
02 / SURFACE
Each painting asks for a different surface.
COPPER
Responsive and alive, copper beings warmth and depth. Its subtle glow influences color and gives the painting an inner light that I feel is unlike any other.
It’s super smooth surface is perfect for oil paintings of everything from landscapes to portraits.
ALUMINUM
Aluminum allows me to create art that can be safely placed in humid climates and allows for the versatility to go into any frame.
Different from the copper, you will not see any aluminum directly, it’s simply a fabulous support.
LINEN
A timeless classic that’s organic, antimicrobial and perfect for oils.
You can often see the texture of the linen where thinner areas of paint have been applied.
03 / GROUND
Light begins beneath the painting.
I often use a lead-white ground because of its beauty and reliability. The way a surface is prepared shapes everything that follows like luminosity, color, and how each layer of paint will behave over time
04 / PALETTE
Less color. More intention.
Each painting is developed within a limited palette. I believe that fewer colors create unity and harmony. Every relationship becomes deliberate. Restraint allows the light, form, and atmosphere to carry the emotional weight.
05 / MATERIALS
Made for the work.Chosen to endure.
I use the highest-quality materials I can find that suit the painting. High pigment load paints, oils that yellow less than others and even rare-earth pigments. The goal is not just about luxury, it is purpose and longevity.
