About the Artist

Rylan Love (born 1984 in Jacksonville, Florida, United States) is a self-taught contemporary painter and graphite artist based in Waynesville, North Carolina.

Working primarily in oils on copper & aluminum and graphite on paper, Rylan brings together impressionism and whimsical surrealism. His practice recently began placing a particular emphasis on oil paintings on copper, incorporating the metal’s warmth and reflective qualities into scenes shaped by light and atmosphere.

Rylan’s work explores storytelling, memory, and transformation through landscapes and figurative imagery. Drawing on the scenery of places he’s lived or visited, his paintings bring the observed into contact with imagined elements.

Traditional painting materials and techniques inform his approach, while exposed copper becomes an active part of the image. His recent paintings on copper combines mountain landscapes with a whimsically imagined subjects to show human connection within this amazing world we live.
